Product Description

Daphnia, often called water fleas, are small aquatic crustaceans belonging to the subclass Branchiopoda. They typically have an oval-shaped body protected by a transparent, tough carapace (shell). They're usually only a few millimeters in size. Daphnia are filter feeders, primarily eating phytoplankton, zooplankton, and organic detritus. They use appendages to create a current, concentrating tiny particles from the water towards their mouths. This filtering action makes them an important part of the aquatic food web and also helps maintain ecological balance in the water. Daphnia are also vital for aquaculture. They're a key food source for many fish larvae, including fish, shrimp, and seahorses. Their nutritional value primarily comes from protein and the algae they've consumed.
